Parks & rec camps offered by your town or county can be among the most budget-friendly camp options in our region. Many haven’t yet opened for registration, so it’s not too late to secure a spot for this summer!

Camps Opening for Summer 2025 Registration

Camps in our area open for registration anywhere from September to May. Each month, we highlight a few that are opening soon, recently opened, or offering early-bird discounts to help you plan and prioritize.

Durham Parks & Rec Camps

Summer Camp | Organization

Opening for registration:

  • Opening March 17. Find the schedule and registration information at their Summer Camp website. 

Durham Parks & Rec camps serve kids ages 5-17 at multiple locations for traditional full-day camp, half-day camps, and teen camps. Traditional camp offers wide hours to accommodate lots of schedules, going all the way from 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM. Durham’s camps are budget-friendly, coming in well below $200 even for a week of full-day camp.

Holly Springs Parks & Rec Camps

Summer Camp | Organization

Opening for registration:

  • Opening March 17 for nonresidents of Holly Springs; already open for Holly Springs residents. Camp information is linked from their Summer Camp website.

The Town of Holly Springs has several camp options covering 9 weeks of summer for kids ages 6-15, including traditional summer camp along with specialty themes such as cooking, STEM, performing arts, games, and visual arts. They have a snazzy interactive Program Guide to see all the camps at a glance.

Apex Parks, Rec & Cultural Resources Camps

Summer Camp | Organization

Opening for registration:

  • Opening March 17 for Apex residents, March 31 for the general public. Camp information is linked from their Camp Information website.

The Town of Apex offers a variety of full-day and half-day options for kids ages 5-14 at four locations around town. Activities include sports, STEM, performing arts, visual arts, and cooking. There is a handy online Program Guide with a quick view of camp offerings.

Boys and Girls Club of Durham and Orange Counties

Summer Camp | Organization

The Durham Club is opening for registration:

  • Opening March 17 for current afterschool members, April 7 for the general public. Camp information is at their Summer Camp website.

The summer camp program at Boys and Girls Clubs is designed to inspire creativity, build character, and provide academic enrichment for kids ages 6-18. Campers participate in field trips, STEM activities, reading programs, and fitness. The summer is divided into two multi-week sessions.

Cary Parks, Rec & Cultural Resources Camps

Summer Camp | Organization

Opening for registration:

  • Opening March 19 for the general public; already open for Cary residents.

The Town of Cary has over 100 camp offerings for kids of all ages ranging from traditional summer camp to boating, tennis, wilderness survival skills, bluegrass mandolin, golf, pottery, acting, glasswork, STEM, and much more. Pro tip: With so many camps, dates, and times to pick from, the “Camps by Week” view on page 36 of the downloadable brochure is very handy.

Chatham County Parks & Rec Camps

Summer Camp | Organization

Opening for registration:

  • Opening March 29. Camp schedule and the link to register are on their Youth Programs webpage.

Chatham County Parks & Rec offers 8 weeks of traditional style summer camp starting in late June for kids ages 5-12. Camp is held in the rural setting of Northwest District Park and features swimming, boating, fishing, archery, crafts, and games.
