Camps to Nurture a Love of Nature

December 2025

Some kids are naturally drawn to dirt, mud, bugs, and bogs—happiest when their shoes are wet, their hands are muddy, and their pockets are full of treasures from the trail. For these kids (and the ones who might just need a little encouragement to step off the sidewalk), nature-based camps offer something special. With the Triangle’s forests, fields, and wetlands as their playgrounds and classrooms, nature camps offer the chance to bask in the wonders of the outdoors all day long.

Time spent outdoors supports kids’ physical health, builds confidence and resilience, and sparks creativity. Whether they’re creating nature art from found materials, splashing in creeks, hiking shaded trails, learning the names of trees and animals, or simply slowing down to observe the world around them, children develop a deeper connection to nature—and to themselves. These experiences help nurture environmental stewardship, teamwork, problem-solving skills, and a lifelong love of being outside.

Here’s a sampling to get you started. You can find plenty more nature-based camps on the KidsBooked app! Simply filter by “Outdoors” and narrow the options by location, dates, timing, ages, and more.
