Vault Theatre was founded by Lauren Sale, who serves as its Producing Artistic Director and teaches throughout all of its programming. Lauren is an experienced theatre educator and director specializing in theatre with, for, and by young people. She has led education programs at theatres across the U.S. and U.K.—including Writers Theatre in Chicago, Florida Repertory Theatre, and North Carolina Theatre—and has trained at The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London and Niagara University. Each summer camp is led by professional Teaching Artists who are both working theatre practitioners and skilled educators. Together, they create a dynamic, imaginative, and joy-filled environment where campers build confidence, creativity, and collaboration through theatre.
Vault Theatre is a professional theatre company based in Durham that unlocks imagination through creative, high-quality programming for young artists and audiences. We’re dedicated to helping young people explore their voices, collaborate with others, and discover the power of storytelling—whether they’re stepping onstage for the first time or deepening a lifelong love of theatre. Our summer camps take place at Vault Theatre Studios, Montessori School of Durham, and Duke School, offering accessible, engaging programs for ages 4–18. Each camp blends acting, movement, and storytelling in an environment that’s joyful, inclusive, and rooted in ensemble-based learning. Vault Theatre’s year-round programming also includes studio and training classes, leadership initiatives, school partnerships, and professional productions that celebrate stories of radical hope and youth resilience.
