Combining creative freedom with real responsibility, Tinkering School NC and Forest Tinkering Camp give young makers the confidence to think boldly, work collaboratively, and discover the joy of turning imagination into reality. Kids enjoy days outside spent designing, building, and creating in a supportive environment that celebrates curiosity and courage.
Tinkering School NC is set on a vibrant working farm filled with animals, trees, and open space. Campers learn to use real tools—drills, drivers, saws, and measuring tapes—with an emphasis on safety, teamwork, and experimentation. Each week begins with skill-building and brainstorming before campers collaborate to construct a large-scale themed project. Along the way, participants play group games, cool off on the water slide, and explore the farm’s fields and creatures.
Forest Tinkering Camp takes place mostly in a specially-designed forest shelter evoking a “pioneering village” vibe. Campers pursue individual projects as they learn outdoor skills like knapping arrowheads and building fishing nets, whittle sticks into tools, chop wood, and share campfire stories.
