Camp Flintlock Day Camp at Joel Lane Musuem House

Camp Flintlock Day Camp at Joel Lane Musuem House

by Camp Flintlock
Ages 7–13

At Camp Flintlock, children connect with history by getting a taste of colonial-era life. Trading modern comforts for colonial simplicity, including wearing 18th-century clothing, children experience history on a whole new level. This location for Camp Flintlock day camp is in downtown Raleigh at the Joel Lane Museum House (JLMH). The Camp Flintlock JLMH day camp is done in partnership with the JLMH, the residence of Raleigh's founder. In addition to hands-on activities, the museum staff teach campers about the history of our capitol city and give them a private guided tour of the Joel Lane residence. One of the highlights of the JLMH day camp is the parade to Nash Square, where campers play more active games such as kick the can.

About the organization

Website ↗

Camp Flintlock was established in 1999 by Mr. and Mrs. Tim Langdon of Four Oaks, North Carolina, with the idea that "people—particularly children—should have the opportunity to learn about history by living it." What initially began as a Colonial American themed residential summer camp has grown to include day camps, field trips, online events, overnight encampments, and live fife & drum performances, as well as partnerships with several Colonial American historic sites.
